Preferred Response: 1
The referenced article involves a rabbit study in which long bones were fractured, lengthened, allowed to heal and then histologically evaluated. The results were no change in the vascular wall including tunica or adventitia, no increase in collagenous or elastic fibers and no change in the overall dimensions of the vessel. The only not change was an increase in the number of vasa vasorum. These finding led the authors to conclude that vessel response was not a limiting factor in limb lengthening.
